Ever wondered why Route 66 is so immortalized in art and pop culture despite the road itself became totally obsolete? And why should one decorate their home with a copper road sign? Sometimes history can be the best inspiration. Route 66 is a symbol of new opportunities. Estabilished in 1926, not only did it help bring industry from the East to the West but also it gave people from many small towns first (!) access to major roads. Despite Route 66 has been removed from national Highway System in 1985, it will always be remembered as the road which helped hundreds of thousands of individuals escape from Dust Bowl. There was a TV show called ‘Route 66’ about two young men’s roadtrip in a Corvette, Bobby Troup wrote a song ‘(Get your kicks on) Route 66’ after his cross-country drive from Pennsylvania to California and John Steinbeck called Route 66 the ‘Mother Road’ in one of his novels… It turns out that I was not the only one who got inspired by this ‘superhighway’ linking Chicago to Los Angeles.
Installation and maintenance
My durable products are 0,2″ thick (0,6 mm) and very easy to install – just like regular tiles, using about 0,18″ (3 mm) grout. Moreover, the maintenance is not a problem. Use 1/2 cup of liquid dishwashing detergent and 2 cups of warm water or mild soap solution. Use a soft cloth or rag, not an abrasive sponge, nor a pad. When cleaning the tile’s surface, wipe it gently then rinse the cloth or rag with warm water. Wipe the tile’s surface until you make sure that any soap or dishwashing detergent residue is removed. Then dry the surface with a soft cloth or a rag.
A few words about me
Copper&Art is an artistic forge with a creative spirit. Through hard work combined with my passion for design and art, I have created own, unique style, which is an astonishing meld of Celtic, Rustic and Art Deco. I offer one-off, handmade wall tiles that feature a spectrum of shapes and sizes. Those pieces of art are extremely nuts-and-bolts and can be applied absolutely everywhere – in the bathroom, kitchen, living room or even in the garden. The tiles can also give an artistic expression to an office. The passage of time only makes my art pieces look more sophisticated. I adjust our projects to customers’ taste and needs, also by making personalized pieces. With many years of experience (and also lots of experimenting!) with copper, I can say that the only limit is my own imagination!
