As promised, this post will be devoted to importance of copper in terms of our health. Reading it, some of you most probably will wonder what it has to do with my handmade backsplash tiles… Frankly speaking, when I started my adventure with copper as a hobby, it didn’t even cross my mind to do a research on its influence on human’s health. Why not? Thinking about down-to-earth issues doesn’t boost an artist’s creativity. But since I’ve started selling my one-off pieces, I feel responsible for my beloved customers and I wanted to make sure that having a piece of copper art made by me won’t be hazardous for health, especially since my products can be used for example as backsplash tiles in the kitchen. Luckily, my fears were unfounded! First benefit: copper and its alloys which I also work on (like brasses or nickel) are natural antibacterial materials. Copper forms powerful atoms and they inactivate viruses by damaging their respiratory chains. We benefit from its corrosion because in fact microorganisms are inactivated during this process. Due to its antimicrobial activity, copper is used in drinking water treatment and transport. American Environmental Protection Agency has officially recognized it as the first antimicrobial agent. What’s more, copper alloys used in frequently touched objects, for example doorknobs or sink handles have strong germ-killing powers – killing them within maximum two hours, copper can be recognized as a superhero, protecting us from disease transmission. So if you ever wondered if copper backsplash tiles will do any harm in a place where you prepare meals – now you have nothing to worry about!

Secondly, all of human body tissues couldn’t exist without copper. Now that you already know copper as a antibacterial hero, you won’t be surprised that it maintains the immune system. Did you know that with iron, copper plays a crucial role in producing red blood cells and that it is responsible how the nerve system works?
Researches have proven that copper imbalance can result in cardiovascular disease, high cholesterol and high blood pressure. Moreover, imbalance of this precious mineral has been linked to Alzheimer’s disease. I have great news for beauty maniacs – copper maintains elastin and collagen and helps reduce free radicals.
Where can we find copper? Most of it is found in brain, liver, skeletal muscles and heart. Now you know that I am serious, saying that I put my HEART and soul into creating my copper art pieces!
Now you know another reason (apart from art and design) why just I couldn’t (literally!) exist without copper! Copper may help prevent many diseases and it keeps one’s body in a good shape.Next time I will prove that home is where the heart copper is!
