It will please some of you that I’ve almost titled my first post here ’10 reasons why I lovecopper art’. However, the rest of you will be relieved that I am aware that my love is a bit (?)offbeat, making my copper art pieces, searching for copper art inspirations, admiring the finalresults of my work… And that copper is used not only in art. Don’t worry, I love my family aswell, maybe even a bit more than working with copper!

So today is the day when my blogging adventure starts… It also marks the day when Ibecame brave enough to start selling copper tiles which I have been making for years, torelax after a tough day, to make something special as a gift… It was my family and friendswho encouraged me to start selling my stuff, saying that people will love my backsplashcopper tiles or framed copper tiles. Let the adventure begin!
Here’s my space where I will be sharing what particular patterns on my copper tiles mean tome. Maybe even a diary which will show, in few years, how much I am developing as anartist? Since I don’t want to bore you to death with the copper stories of my life (ha ha), Let’sstart with fun facts about copper. And guess what! This time the facts have nothing to do withart. These are the reasons why we need copper in our everyday life so much. So did youknow that…
– The Statue of Liberty is a real piece of copper art, made from 179,000 pounds ofcopper? This lady is covered by natural, green, about 0.005 inches thick patina whichhas protected her from corrosion since 1886
– The average home contains 400 pounds of copper that is used for electrical wiring, pipes and appliances. The average car has 50 pounds of copper.
– The word ‘copper’ comes from latin ‘Cuprum’ which stands for Cyprus – the largestcopper mining during the time of Roman Empire
– Due to its versatility and durability, copper is referred to as “man’s eternal metal”. Dueto its resistance to corrosion, copper parts alloyed with nickel can be exposed toseawater
– Copper is a natural antibacterial. It’s used in public buildings, for brass doorknobs andhandrails in order to prevent spread of diseases and in line part of ships so thatmussels and barnacles don’t stick to the boats
– Copper is 100% recyclable, without breakdown in quality. That’s probably the reasonwhy nearly 80% of the copper that has ever been produced is still in use- You will probably use about 1500 of copper since you use computers, smartphones, drive a car…
Don’t miss the next post! I will explain how much we, humans need copper to stay healthy (oreven alive).
